Onur Coban
For the past 10+ years, I’ve been working with brands in crafting Information Architecture, User Experience, User Interface, Visual Design, and Graphic Design. I’ve worked on 15+ startup projects as the principal designer, mastering UX & UI on a range of mobile, web, service, and desktop projects.
I extended my knowledge on Visual Communication in Turkey, Poland, and South Korea. I gained practical experience of UX & IA in digital shopping experiences, and UX & UI for emerging products while working and living in Denmark. I had the honor of being a judge for the CSS Design Awards and had the privilege to work with several global brands such as Facebook, Tillamook, Marvel, Insomniac, Bestseller, Jack&Jones, Turkish Airlines, Ferrara, and Absolare.
I take time and energy throughout the design process to carefully understand and unify the needs of both the user and the stakeholders(s). This care extends throughout the feature development, design process, and production phase by testing early and often. I’m passionate about filtering complex problems into simple and actionable solutions which allows people to be more efficient with their time.
Plus One
PlusOne is a platform to find new connections, explore events, and build a fun, outgoing community. PlusOne’s main mission is to bridge the gap of loneliness, by promoting interaction – specifically in urban areas. The application gives users an opportunity to connect based on mutual interests, with no tied expectations. Users can build their profile based on interest categories, then can create or search for an event that they are interested in. For example, “I need a plus one for dinner tonight!” or “I have two tickets to the opera tonight, who wants to join?”.
Obstacles & Challenges
With all of the dating apps that exist, it was a challenge to build a networking-focused product that doesn’t focus on dating. The onboarding UX was especially tricky to encourage the user to select their interests, rather than ‘building their online profile. Focusing on the content and visual design choices proved to define the product as neutral, with no expectations or pressures. This way, the user could have an unbiased interaction and define their own connection(s).

PlusOne encourages human connection. With this in mind, my goal for the product was to craft a user experience that was seamless, inviting, and attractive. Saturated colors and electric gradients are applied to not only create a visual language, but to keep the user amused and surprised. I hoped to offer a positive and interactive experience for the user to connect with a community and explore their surroundings.

Endless Style
This CORE by JACK & JONES microsite shows various styling options. As the users interact with an outfit they can see the different styling variations. The seamless shop integration makes it possible to buy the product.
Shiftwear
ShiftWear is crowdfunding success story having raised over $900k (USD) on Indiegogo in December 2015 for the launch of its custom designed sneakers. They offer a completely customizable shoe that can be designed straight from a phone or tablet. Not only is the platform for sneaker enthusiasts, but for emerging artists to sell their designs and gain visibility.
Obstacles & Challenges
Like any emerging startup, ShiftWear’s launch was on a tight timeline and budget. The task at hand was to create an intuitive MVP application that allowed complete customization from the design of the motion graphic to the color of the laces. Because this was an MVP product, I had to make economic design decisions while allowing the user to have all the necessary tools to make the experience seamless.

ShiftWear is wearable tech brand that allows the user to have complete customization at their fingertips. My mission was to craft the brand identity through the design and elevate the product’s stature. A sleek and polished look and feel were conveyed in the design. Unique visual elements were included to assist the user during the customization, allowing them to experience the freedom of designing their own pair of sneakers. I featured a dark UI with pops of color and gradients to compliment the collection of motion graphics.
Kidfund
Kidfund is a hybrid of a savings and private social platform social application that allows parents to start saving for their child’s future, sooner. The goal of the application is not only to share your kid’s life with a private community of friends and family, but to build your relationship with other kids in your circle. With easy gift sending and transfer features, adults can contribute to a kid’s savings account to help empower the next generation.
Obstacles & Challenges
Kidfund’s main goal is to help empower the next generation financially, without directly asking friends and family to contribute. This proved to be a challenge during the project. The UI/UX had to be non-intrusive, but rather natural and friendly when asking if the user wanted to send a contribution. Features like “gifting” and “goals/achievements” proved to be beneficial in not only normalizing the act of sending money to children, but rewarding the user for doing so.

Kidfund is a trustworthy and intimate platform whose goal is to help support the next generation. I hoped to craft an experience that communicated trust and security. Since the platform is a hybrid of a financial and social platform, the visual elements had to be refined and professional. I chose to feature delicate typefaces and visual elements that complemented and empowered the content. Interactive design elements were incorporated into every action, allowing the user to be pleasantly surprised.
Bridge
To craft the UI/UX for Bridge’s brand identity and desktop experience Bridge is a platform that brings yoga and wellness into the workplace. It’s a wellness program that companies can offer as an add-on to their employee healthcare benefits. During the onboarding, Bridge asks the employee a range of questions including but not limited to their personal health, lifestyle, habits, and exercise regime. Bridge then offers a variety of curated exercises and movements that can be performed right at the user’s desk. Their differentiator is offering exercises that are subtle, simple, and don’t bring attention to the user. This allows the user to feel comfortable, relaxed, and healthy, which directly aligns with Bridge’s mission.
Obstacles & Challenges
Bridge was originally designed to be a native Windows application. To fully understand the requirements, I spent some time researching the style guide and interaction design for Windows. Half way through the UI phase, the client decided to transition the product to be a website. This proved to be a bit challenging since the original design intent had shifted, thus requiring design and interaction tweaks to make it more suitable for a website. Another challenging aspect of this product was the thorough onboarding process. There were several categories and sub-categories that the user had to complete for Bridge to offer a truly curated offering. I brainstormed different interactive inputs to feature for each question in order to keep the user engaged at every step. I really focused on gamification, and thought about how that would translate to the interior pages.

Bridge is a wellness education company that specializes in adaptive yoga. My goal was to create an attractive and lively visual direction throughout the interface. With the logo design, I was inspired by their specialty (yoga), and wanted to reflect themes of movement and positive energy. I translated this direction by using calm colors and organic design elements throughout the facets of the platform.
NAR
National Association of Republicans (NAR) is a social platform that strives to build an online community. NAR’s goal is to create a safe space for users to learn, share, and interact with like-minded individuals. NAR hoped that the platform would be valuable resource for republicans in time for the upcoming election.
Obstacles & Challenges
To help encourage a safe and private community, NAR’s platform is gated to the visiting user. Individuals wishing to join the NAR community have different paid membership tiers to choose from. This turned out to be a challenge to convert guest users to paid members. The UI/UX had to be enticing enough to convince the user to join immediately and enter their credit card information during registration.

NAR’s mission is to offer an impactful platform for users to connect. To achieve this, I was inspired to craft a beautiful and unique UI, with a simple UX flow. That way, the experience is intuitive and quick to adapt to. Because NAR is a political-focused platform, I wanted the logo and visual direction to speak to this. I featured large photography, bold colors, thick font weights, and color blocking in the design. With this, I hoped to create a platform that not only stood out from other social networks, but felt empowering to the user.
